  Frequently Asked  Pellet Stove Questions
Investing in a quality Harman pellet stove? We've had to address quite a few questions and concerns over the years; below are the most popular questions and the answers.

Pellet Stoves

Coal Stokers>>

Why would we choose a pellet stove?
 Answer:
Automatic operation:  Add fuel once in 24 hours, set the heat level and relax.

Clean: No dirt, bugs, bark mold, dust, or smoke.

Safe:  Eliminate the chance of overheating.  Pellet stoves burn the fuel as it is automatically delivered to the burn pot.  Built-in safety provisions control the maximum heat level. Since the front door remains closed during operation and refueling, smoke and hot sparks do not escape from the stove.

Efficient:  Harman Pellet Stoves are designed to burn pellet fuel with the highest level of efficiency possible, reducing heat loss and emissions to a minimum. Chimney hazards are minimized; whenever possible, the pellet stove can be vented thru the wall eliminating the need to use a chimney.  If you don’t use the chimney, you don’t need to maintain it.
Where can the Pellet Stove be placed in our home?
 Answer:

If you are replacing a stove that was connected to a chimney, the pellet stove can be connected to the same chimney.

If you would prefer to place the stove in another location, it can be vented thru the wall without the need for a chimney.  You will need floor protection if the stove is placed on a combustible floor surface.  There are recommendations concerning the proximity of the vent exit point to doors, windows, public walkways, etc.  Check with Heart Line Stove Shop for recommendations on placement and the technical specifications of the particular Harman model for floor protection and clearance to combustibles.
Will the thru wall vent cause dirt to collect on the outside our house?
 Answer:
No.  A Harman Stove coupled with the correct vent cap design will prevent dust from collecting on the siding.
How much area will our Pellet Stove heat?
 Answer:

Since all Harman Pellet Stoves are equipped with a room air blower or distribution fan, the stove can handle large areas.  As the cool air in adjacent rooms settles to the floor, it is drawn to the stove and gathered by the distribution fan and emerges as warm air.

Even Harman’s smaller pellet stoves can easily handle 1600 sq. ft.

Can I safely leave the Stove running while I’m away from home?
 Answer:
Yes.  Compare it to your refrigerator; it is totally safe to leave it operating 24 hours per day.
How much will it cost to heat with a Harman Pellet Stove?
 Answer:
That depends upon factors such as area to be heated, insulation, windows and desired temperature.  The average for a 1600 sq. ft. home ranges between $400 and $600 per winter.
Do Harman Pellet Stoves need to be cleaned by a professional?
 Answer:
Harman Pellet Stoves are the easiest stoves on the market to clean.  Heart Line Stove Shop technicians will teach you to clean, operate and maintain your stove.  If you prefer, Heart Line will clean your stove for you.
Do Pellet Stoves require electricity to operate?
 Answer:
Yes.  Pellet Stoves use electricity to provide the automatic feed and combustion air, this ensures the stove will operate cleanly and with high efficiency.
Is Battery Power available?
 Answer:
Yes.  Battery Back-up systems are available.  This will allow the stove to continue to operate without interruption in event of a power outage.  If you live in an area frequented by power outages, you may want to invest in a generator.
What are the Pellets made from and how do I get them?
 Answer:

Wood Pellet Fuel is made from clean wood waste residue resulting from wood product manufacturing activity.  The pellets are packaged in easy-to-handle 40 Lb. Bags.

Wood Pellets are available in a variety of grades and qualities from various sources. You can purchase as little as one bag. Check with Heart Line Stove Shop for pricing, delivery details and nearest available sources.

Where will I store the Pellets?
 Answer:
Pellets can be stored under cover in an outdoor area, in the garage or basement. Wood Pellet Fuel does not attract rodents, bugs or other pests. If pellets are stored outdoors, they need to be up off the ground and covered to protect the bags from rain and snow.
